A series is a promise: here are several posts that belong together. The least I can do is help you keep your place in one.
The Series Page
Every series has its own page, with its title, a short description and the parts listed in reading order. On it there is a Your progress box that counts the parts you have read, like 2 / 4, with a bar underneath.
Below the count is one button that takes you where you should go next. If you have not started, it says Start reading. Otherwise it says Continue reading, with the title of the part it will open.
How “Next” Is Chosen
The button is not just the next number. It follows a simple rule:
- A part you are part way throughIf you have started one but not finished it, that is where you go, and the furthest-along one wins.
- Otherwise, the first part you have not readSkipped something earlier? The button takes you back to it.
- If you have read everythingThe box says so, and the button goes away.
A part counts as read once you have been through about nine tenths of it.
On the Post Itself
When you are reading one part of a series, the left side lists every part with the current one in bold, and a percentage or Read beside the ones you have started. At the bottom of the page there are Previous and Up next cards, so you never have to go back to the series page to move on.
Each series also has its own feed, so you can follow just that series in a feed reader.
And the Same Rules Apply
Series progress comes from the same place as bookmarks: your browser first, your account if you are signed in. Nothing about it needs an account, and nothing about it is visible to anyone else.
A series should be easy to leave and easy to come back to.
